Pat Dunwoody, Executive Director, Canadian ETF Association (CETFA)

Pat is a client and relationship-focused executive with an in-depth background in all aspects of the investment fund industry. She brings a strategic perspective while developing quality initiatives and demonstrates a clear grasp of the drivers behind client satisfaction and the impact on the bottom-line.

 

She has spent over 35 years in the Financial Services industry and is currently the Executive Director of the Canadian ETF Association. She has been an active member on many industry committees in support of efficiency and standardization.

Ahmed Farooq, Vice President, Head of Retail ETF Distribution, Franklin Templeton Investments Corp.
Ahmed Farooq is Vice President – ETF Business Development, responsible for directing and expanding the Franklin LibertySharesTM ETF business across major Canadian Investment Dealers and financial professionals.

Mr. Farooq has 10 years of experience in the ETF industry and 14 years in the investment industry.

Prior to joining Franklin Templeton in 2017, Mr. Farooq spent 10 years at BlackRock Canada supporting the promotion and growth of iShares ETFs. Recently, Ahmed was a senior wholesaler covering Toronto and Ottawa. Previously, he managed the internal sales team for the iShares ETFs business across Canada and lead wholesaler activities in Atlantic Canada.

Mr. Farooq earned his Bachelor of Commerce degree with a specialization in Commerce and Finance, and a major in Economics from the University of Toronto. He has completed the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and has earned his CIMA® designation from the Investment Management Consultants Association® in conjunction with the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Farooq has also completed the Canadian Securities Course (CSC), Conduct & Practices Handbook (CPH), Professional Financial Planning Course (PFP), Wealth Management Techniques (WMT) and has received the designation of Financial Management Advisor (FMA).

 
 

Maxwell Gold, Head of Gold Strategy, State Street Global Advisors
Maxwell Gold is the Head of Gold Strategy within the SPDR ETF business at State Street Global Advisors. Before joining SSGA in July 2019, he served as the Director of Investment Strategy at Aberdeen Standard Investments, heading macroeconomic and commodity thought leadership for its $3B U.S. ETF business. Prior to this he has also held roles within the Investment Research team at the World Gold Council, as an Investment Strategist with the Chief Investment Office at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, and with the Global Portfolio Construction team within JP Morgan Private Bank’s Chief Investment Office. Maxwell holds an M.S. in finance from the Simon Business School and a B.A. in economics from the University of Rochester. He is a CFA charterholder and holds the series 7 and 63 registrations.

 
 

Nick Griffin, Founding Partner & Chief Investment Officer at Munro Partners CI Global Asset Management
Nick is a Founding Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Munro Partners. Nick is responsible for the investment management of Munro’s key investment funds and the formulation and implementation of the proprietary investment process. Nick has been managing global long/short equity mandates for over 12 years. Nick’s key career highlights include:

  • Over 20 years’ working in financial services with 13 years of funds management experience

  • 2005-2015: Head of International Strategy on the K2 Select International Absolute Return Fund

  • Member of the K2 Asset Management asset allocation and currency exposure committee

  • 2000-2005: Senior Analyst (global oil and gas) at Deutsche Bank U.K.

Nirujan Kanagasingam, CFA, Vice President of ETF Strategy, CI Global Asset Management
As Director of ETF Strategy, Nirujan’s primary responsibility includes working with the various departments within CI GAM to set and execute the ETF Sales Strategy and help promote the growth of the ETF business. Nirujan’s responsibilities also includes overseeing the ETF Sales Support team where he works alongside the sales team in assisting investors and advisors on ETF education and support.

Nirujan brings a wealth of ETF knowledge, including ETF product management, indexing, factor research, ETF portfolio development, and has been involved in the launch of many ETFs in the Canadian marketplace. Prior to joining CI GAM, Nirujan held progressively senior roles with global asset managers Invesco and Horizons ETFs, where responsibilities included product management, product development and sales strategy in both the Canadian and U.S market. Nirujan holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Accounting) from Ryerson University and is a Level III candidate in the CFA Program.

 
 

Katie Klingensmith, Senior Vice President, Investment Specialist, Brandywine Global Investment Management, LLC
Katie provides research and communication to clients, consultants, and prospects in support of our investment strategies and global macroeconomic views. She joined the Firm in 2021 from Franklin Templeton, where she worked as an Investment Director for Templeton Global Macro (2016-2021). Katie previously served as a senior currency and macro analyst and client-facing resource at UBS (2006-2015), an international economist for the US Treasury focused on Latin America (2004-2006), and an analyst at the Federal Reserve Board on emergency liquidity (2001-2004). Katie also held roles at BankBoston in Argentina, ACCION International, and the World Bank.

She holds a B.A. with High Honors from Swarthmore College, an M.P.P. from Harvard's Kennedy School, and received a Fulbright Fellowship (University of Coimbra) and a Paul Harris Rotary Graduate Fellowship (University of Buenos Aires). She has lived and studied in Spain, El Salvador, Portugal, Argentina, Brazil and Switzerland. Katie holds FINRA Series 7, 24 and 63.

 
 

Lisa Langley, CEO & President, Emerge Canada

Lisa Lake Langley is the CEO & President of Emerge Canada Inc. Lisa has over 30 years of investment management industry experience. Prior to founding Emerge, Lisa has worked globally in the financial industry, she worked for over 20 years in Toronto as the President and COO of First Asset Advisory Services where she raised over a billion in assets, and successfully sold the company. She then continued on to work with the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) as the Vice President of Member Services. Following this Lisa became the Managing Director of Global Product Development for Alliance Trust in Scotland. Lisa then moved back to the United States where served as the COO and Partner for Sandhill Investment Management in Buffalo, NY. She founded Emerge to provide global support to investment managers. Lisa graduated with a BA in Finance from Loyola University Maryland and received her Executive MBA from Kellog-Schulich School of Business Program.

 
 

Stephen Lingard, CFA, Senior Portfolio Manager, CI Global Asset Management
Stephen Lingard joined the CI Multi-Asset Management team in 2019 as a Senior Portfolio Manager and Head of Research. He is the lead manager of CI Mosaic ETF Portfolios and other mandates, and a member of the CI Multi-Asset Management Investment Committee specializing in equity strategy.
Mr. Lingard has 25 years of industry experience, including more than a decade as a senior portfolio manager at another diversified global asset manager, where he managed multi-asset portfolios. Mr. Lingard has also managed institutional accounts for global clients and held a variety of investment positions in organizations in Europe, Asia and the United States.
Mr. Lingard holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Western University, an MBA from the EU Business School and the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He is a member of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts.

 
 

Paul MacDonald, CFA, Chief Investment Officer & Portfolio Manager, Harvest ETFs
Paul serves as the Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager for Harvest. Paul joined Harvest in January 2013 and has 18 years of experience in the investment business, with 15 years as portfolio manager. Paul oversees the investment team and co-covers select Healthcare and Real Estate companies globally and is the lead portfolio manager on the Harvest Healthcare Leaders Income ETF, one of Canada’s largest Healthcare ETFs. He is a frequent media guest commentator on BNN, Globe & Mail, Morningstar, and other leading industry media. Previously Paul held positions as Vice President and Portfolio Manager at a Canadian asset manager where he was responsible for the investment portfolios, including a Lipper Award winning Fund.

 
 

David Roode, Vice President & Director, ETF Product Strategy, TD Asset Management
Mr. Roode is the Head of ETF Product & Strategy at TD Asset Management. He and his team lead the development of new ETF products and coordinate the internal marketing, legal and operational activities for the ongoing management of the ETF suite. He joined the firm in 2019, leveraging his 20 years of investment industry experience, previously as President, Fund Services of Strathbridge Asset Management and Senior Vice President of Brompton Funds. Prior to joining the investment industry Mr. Roode worked in the audit and assurance department of a major accounting firm where he earned his Chartered Accountant designation. Mr. Roode also earned an MBA from the University of Western Ontario and a BA(hons) from Queen’s University.

 
 

Benjamin Tal, Deputy Chief Economist, CIBC World Markets Inc.
Mr. Tal is responsible for analyzing economic developments and their implications for North American fixed income, equity, foreign exchange and commodities markets. He also acts in an advisory capacity to bank officers on issues related to wealth management, household/corporate credit and risk.
Well-known for his ground-breaking published research on topics such as labour market dynamics, real estate, credit markets, international trade and business economic conditions, Mr. Tal not only contributes to the conversation but also frequently sets the agenda.
He has close to 20 years of experience in the private sector advising clients, industry leaders, corporate boards, trade associations and governments on economic and financial issues.
National and global media regularly seek him out for his insight and analysis on economic issues that impact financial markets, consumers, corporations and public policy. He is also a frequent lecturer in the economic programs of various Canadian universities.
Mr. Tal is a member of the Economic Committee of The Canadian Chamber of Commerce, The Economic Development Committee of the Toronto Board of Trade. He is also a member of board of Governors of Junior Achievement of Central Ontario, and a board member of the Toronto Financial Services Alliance.
