Deborah Fuhr, Partner & Co-Founder, ETFGI
Deborah Fuhr is a partner and co-founder of ETFGI, an independent research and consultancy firm established in 2012 covering the global ETF and ETP industry. The firm is focused on providing thought leadership, producing independent research on the global ETF and ETP industry including monthly ETF and ETP asset flows, manager rankings, product updates, index providers rankings, exchanges rankings, banks and brokerage firms ETF and ETP trading rankings, providing education and assistance to investors on product comparison, asset allocation implementation as well as offering customised research.
Previously she was the Global Head of ETF Research and Implementation Strategy and a Managing Director at BlackRock/BGI from Sept 2008 – Oct 2011 managing a team which won a number of awards. Ms Fuhr worked at Morgan Stanley in London from 1997 – 2008 as a Managing Director and head of the Investment Strategy team. Prior to this she was an Associate at Greenwich Associates the strategic consulting and research source for providers and users of financial services worldwide.
ETFGI won the Best ETF Research award in 2012 in the ETF Express awards announced on February 28th 2013 in London. In 2012, 2009, 2008 and 2007, Ms Fuhr was named as one of the Top 100 women in Finance, a distinguished list of the most influential women in European Finance, by Financial News.
She has an MBA from the JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut.

Susanne Alexandor, Managing Director, Cougar Global
Susanne joined Cougar Global to lead the private client wealth management business and participate in the management of our investment strategies. She brings over 20 years’ experience in Canadian and global investment management, having worked extensively with private and institutional clients as a discretionary portfolio manager and advisor. Susanne held positions with Deutsche Bank (DWS), Morgan Grenfell Asset Management (currently Aberdeen Asset Management), UBS Wealth Management, and Citi Private Bank in major financial centers including New York, Luxembourg, London, and Toronto. Susanne earned an Honours BA in Economics and German from Rutgers University. She is a registered Portfolio Manager - Advising Representative with the Ontario Securities Commission.
Dean Allen, Head of Product Management, Vanguard
Dean Allen is head of product management for Vanguard Investments Canada Inc. Mr. Allen supports the development of Vanguard’s ETF business in Canada where he provides product support for sales and manages capital markets relationships.
rior to his current position, Mr. Allen was a sales executive in Vanguard’s Financial Advisor Services. He was responsible for building and maintaining strategic sales partnerships with private wealth management groups at banks and independent trust companies in the United States.
Mr. Allen earned a B.S. in finance from the University of Maryland. He is a member of the CFA Society of Toronto.
David Barber, Vice President, National Accounts, First Asset ETFs
As Vice President of National Accounts, David brings more than 18 years of experience in the financial services industry to First Asset.
David works closely with analysts in the financial industry to bring recognition to First Asset’s three product lines. More recently he has focused on raising awareness regarding First Asset’s Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), and is actively involved in working with institutions to manage and support the sale of ETFs.
Prior to joining First Asset, David was an investor relations account executive, as well as a fixed-income broker at an inter-dealer brokerage. Dave has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Ontario and holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation.
Donald G. Bennyhoff, Senior Investment Analyst, Vanguard
Donald G. Bennyhoff is a senior investment analyst for Vanguard Investment Strategy Group. He is a member of the group responsible for capital markets research and the asset allocations used in Vanguard’s fund-of-fund solutions, such as the Target Retirement Funds. The group is also responsible for maintaining and enhancing the investment methodology used for advice-based relationships with high-net-worth and institutional clients. In addition, Mr. Bennyhoff has authored a number of research papers on topics of concern for institutional and ultra high-net-worth audiences. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Furman University, has been in the financial services industry since 1991, and is a CFA charterholder.
Pat Bolland, Senior Counsel, Veritas Communications
Longtime business commentator Pat Bolland has been a business thought leader north and south of the border, from the investment frontline right up to business opinion media. Pat worked his way up in the investment industry from floor clerk on the Toronto Stock Exchange to VP with a top tier firm before moving into broadcasting. Pat’s been business editor at four major networks, currently Sun New Network on ‘AM Agenda’ and has parlayed his TV hosting skills into media training and corporate PR as well as hosting, moderating and webcasting for events and conferences, not to mention a lot of lacrosse coaching. Greg Burgess, Principal, Newhaven Asset Management Inc.
Mr. Burgess is a portfolio manager for Newhaven Asset Management Inc., where he specializes in managing indexed portfolios and the firm’s quantitative equity strategy.
Mr. Burgess began his career at Goldman Sachs, where he worked with wealthy families and institutions. He later joined Ibbotson Associates, where he consulted with institutions and investment advisors on portfolio management issues. In 1999, he formed an investment consulting firm, Burgess + Associates, where has consulted with investment banks, insurance companies, and mutual fund companies in the U.S. and Canada on various investment related matters. He has taught economics at The University of Cincinnati and portfolio management topics at the Alliance-Ibbotson Research Institute. He has written and conducted more than 50 workshops on asset allocation topics for investment professionals.
Mr. Burgess has a B.A., magna cum laude, in Economics from The University of Cincinnati and an M.B.A from The University of Chicago.
Michael Cooke, Head of Distribution, PowerShares Canada
In this role, Michael integrates PowerShares exchange traded products into the Canadian retail and institutional markets. He works with both internal and external clients to complement Invesco’s existing business and bring the best of Invesco PowerShares global expertise to Canadian investment professionals and their clients.
Michael joined Invesco in 2008 after a career in derivative product marketing where he was responsible for the origination, structuring and distribution support of a broad range of products linked to a range of asset classes including fixed income, equity, commodities, managed funds and currencies. Prior to that, Michael held progressively senior sales, marketing and management positions at several global asset management firms. During his career, Michael has consulted with numerous institutional and retail clients across multiple product and business lines.
He is a graduate of Queen’s University in Political Studies and makes his home in Toronto with his wife and two children.
Ryan Gerstel, Vice President, Portfolio Manager, Investment Advisor, CIBC Wood Gundy
Ryan Gerstel has over 12 years of experience in the investment industry. During this time he has been providing advice to affluent clients along with building investment strategies for a select group of private clients and foundations. By placing an emphasis on developing customized solutions for each client, Ryan takes pride in assisting clients to reach both their short-term and long-term goals. Ryan graduated from McGill University in 2001 with a Bachelors degree in Economics and Finance. Subsequently he completed several securities, derivatives, and financial planning courses at the Canadian Securities Institute, earning the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2006. Ryan is active in several charitable organizations, including promoting financial education for Canadian youth.
Robyn Graham, Vice President, Strategic Business Development/Associate Portfolio Manager, HAHN Investment Stewards & Company Inc.
Robyn is responsible for managing HAHN's strategic business development initiatives across North America, co-ordinates HAHN's sales and marketing program and is a key spokesperson for the firm.
Robyn has over 25 years of investment industry experience serving high net worth and institutional clients, consultants and advisers and manages key corporate and institutional relationships for HAHN. Prior to joining HAHN, Robyn worked in progressively senior roles with Jones Heward Investment Management, Altamira Investment Services, Natcan Investment Management and Northern Rivers Capital Management.
Robyn is a member of the CFA Institute, is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute, and has her Chartered Investment Manager, Certified Financial Planner and Associate Portfolio Manager designations. She has served on a variety of industry committees and is an experienced industry speaker and educator on topics including asset allocation, exchange traded funds, mutual funds, alternative investments, investment style and portfolio optimization.
Peter Hayes, National Director, KPMG
Peter is the National Director of KPMG’s Canadian Alternative Investments practice. He has more than 12 years of professional experience serving Canadian, US and international private investment funds, reporting issuer mutual funds and asset managers, and their service providers. Peter re-joined KPMG after spending several years developing and managing alternative investment products with Citigroup Alternative Investments in New York. He was previously an audit manager in the Alternative Investments practice of KPMG in the Cayman Islands. Peter started his career with KPMG in Vancouver serving clients in a variety of industries. Peter is a member of the Legal & Finance Committee of the Alternative Investment Management Association (Canada Chapter) and the Treasurer of the Canadian Securities Lending Association.
Steve Higgins, Senior Manager, ETF Compliance & Investor Relations, Royal Canadian Mint
Steve Higgins, Senior Manager, ETR Compliance & Investor Relations, Canadian Gold Reserves/Canadian Silver Reserves programs, Royal Canadian Mint.
Steve Higgins oversees the ETR program at the Royal Canadian Mint. He is responsible for the design, development and management of exchange traded receipts (ETRs). Before joining the Mint in 2009 Steve was the Manager, Corporate Performance at Sustainable Development Technology Canada which makes early stage investments into the Cleantech sector. Steve completed his MBA at HEC School of Management in Paris and his Bachelor of Science and Business at the University of Waterloo.
Robert Jaeger, Managing Director, Markit
Rob is a managing director and group head of equities at Markit. In this role, Rob has responsibility for managing all equity, index, and ETF related data and analytics products. He is also in charge of product development across the division.
Rob has over ten years’ experience in the financial industry and has been involved with ETFs for the majority of his career. Prior to joining Markit in 2009, Rob founded ETF Consulting Group, which provided consulting to some of the largest Issuers, Exchanges and Data companies. Before founding ETF Consulting Group, Rob was a portfolio manager at WG Trading where he oversaw a multi-billion dollar portable alpha strategy using ETFs and index derivatives. Rob started his career at Goldman Sachs where he worked as an index arbitrage trader in their prop trading group.
Rob graduated with a Bachelor degree in Science and Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis.
Ronald Landry, Executive Director, ETF Services, CIBC Mellon
Ronald Landry, CGA, is Executive Director, ETF Services, at CIBC Mellon where he develops and supports the company’s ETF strategy and plan, including determining growth opportunities and ensuring CIBC Mellon’s service model platform meets the needs of current and future ETF clients. Prior to joining CIBC Mellon, Mr. Landry held progressive positions in the financial services sector including senior positions in fund accounting, corporate finance and regulatory compliance at Altamira Investment Services.. Mr. Landry was then recruited to join Felcom Data Services Inc. where he held the position of Executive Vice President and COO prior to being appointed President in 2007. CIBC Mellon acquired Felcom in 2009. Since joining CIBC Mellon, Mr. Landry has led the company’s drive to service the ETF segment and develop CIBC Mellon’s comprehensive service delivery platform. He also participates actively in industry groups including IFIC accounting advisory; CETFA policy; and PR & media committees. Today, CIBC Mellon services more ETF providers than any other custodian in Canada. Founded in 1996, CIBC Mellon provides asset servicing solutions including custody, multicurrency accounting, fund administration, unitholder recordkeeping, pension services and securities lending administration for institutions and corporations. As at January 31, 2012, CIBC Mellon held more than $1.2 trillion in assets under administration.
Jason MacKay, Vice President, Global Investment Strategies, Invesco, PowerShares
Jason MacKay is Vice President, Global Investment Strategies at Invesco. His primary responsibilities include supporting the sales efforts of advisors across Canada.
Jason joined Invesco in 2005 and has been in the investment industry since 1991. Previously he worked as a financial advisor, branch manager and wholesaler for organizations within the industry.
Jason graduated from Trent University with a BA in Politics and Economics. He is married with three children and resides in Southwestern Ontario.
Jason McIntyre, Head of Distribution, Vanguard Investments Canada Inc.
Jason McIntyre is head of distribution for Vanguard Investments Canada Inc. Before joining Vanguard in September 2011, Mr. McIntyre held senior positions at Bank of Montreal Financial Group (BMO).Show more Most recently he was senior vice president and national sales manager for BMO where he was responsible for the sale and distribution of BMO investment products, including mutual funds, ETFs, structured products and term deposits. Mr. McIntyre has more than 19 years of experience in the financial services industry.
Mr. McIntyre earned a B.A. in economics from University of Calgary and is a CFA® charterholder.
Rohit Mehta, Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing, First Asset ETFs
As Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Rohit Mehta leads the strategies and execution of sales and marketing for First Asset’s Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), Mutual Funds and Closed-end Funds.
With over 13 years of financial industry experience, Rohit now leads a team of 16 professionals that cover the three product lines across Canada. He is a contributing speaker at many financial service conferences, events, and has also been a commentator in the media. Rohit sits on the Media and Public Relations committee of the Canadian ETF Association and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours Economics) degree from the University of Western Ontario.
Rohit’s passion for financial services started with his first position at RBC Dominion Securities. Since then he has held progressive roles in financial services and management, and prior to joining First Asset in 2009, Rohit was vice-president and national sales manager at a major Canadian investment management firm.
Amelia Nedovich, Head, Business Development, ETFs & Structured Products, Toronto Stock Exchange
Ms. Nedovich joined Toronto Stock Exchange 15 years ago and has served in various capacities throughout her tenure. Currently, she is responsible for the implementation of the ETF & Structured Product business development strategy for Toronto Stock Exchange, including sponsored education and marketing initiatives promoting the growth of the industry. She also manages relationships with key ETF and structured product industry participants.
Prior to joining TSX, Ms. Nedovich worked as an economist with the Ontario Public Service.
Ms. Nedovich holds an MA in Political Economy from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the Rotman School of Management.
Nicolas Normandeau, Vice President and Portfolio Manager, Fixed Income, Horizons ETFs
Nicolas Normandeau is a member of the Corporate Fixed Income team and is a portfolio manager for the Corporate Fixed Income strategy. Mr. Normandeau has 9 years of industry experience and has been with the firm and a predecessor since 2009. Prior experiences include positions as Wealth Management Analyst for a leading Canadian financial institution and a consulting firm. Mr. Normandeau graduated from the Université de Sherbrooke with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), majoring in Finance. He later received a Master’s in Management degree (MSc) in Finance from the Université de Sherbrooke as well as the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Kevin Prins, Vice President, Ontario, BMO ETFs
Recently returning to BMO from his role as institutional sales lead for fee-based and managed accounts at NBCN, Kevin has an innovative and creative approach to using new types of ETFs to build business. He boasts more than 18 years of experience in banking, securities and mutual funds and leverages his expertise to develop effective ETF strategies for portfolio managers in Ontario. In addition, he takes time out to educate clients about the benefits of ETFs through informal seminars. Prior to joining BMO, Kevin held positions at the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) and RBC Investments. He brings with him an MBA from Dalhousie University and several industry designations, including FCSI, CIM and CFP. He continues to be a regular contributor to CSI publications.
Jaime Purvis, Executive Vice President, National Accounts, Horizons ETFs
As Executive Vice-President at Horizons ETFs, Jaime manages the national accounts relationships for Horizons ETFs with Canadian Investment Dealers, as well as managing relationships with the Dealer’ managed asset and discretionary management programs. Jaime is also responsible for directing the Self-Directed Investing channel and delivering key concepts and product knowledge to the management, operations, and investors. Jaime also manages the Institutional sales program for Horizons ETFs in Europe.
Jaime is also the designated Product specialist for Horizons ETFs, and is integral in implementing and delivering educational campaigns for Horizons, such as the very successful Horizons ETF University series.
A Queen’s University graduate with an Honours degree in Political Science, Jaime has been with Horizons ETFs-related firms since 1995.
Yves Rebetez, Managing Director, Editor, ETFinsight
Recognizing the need for an all-encompassing resource dedicated to Canadian Exchange Traded Funds, Yves recently launched www.etfinsight.ca.
From 2004 until early 2011, Yves was Vice President, ETFs/Structured Products with Canada's largest Bank-owned Broker/Dealer, RBC Dominion Securities. Prior to that ( 1996-2004) Yves served as Portfolio Advisor (Canadian Equities) in DS’s Portfolio Advisory Group. His earlier work experience focused on portfolio management, both in Fixed Income (for Institutional Clients), and in International Equities (for High Net Worth Individuals), with Credit Suisse Canada in Toronto, and earlier with UBS in Switzerland. Yves is a CFA charterholder.
Jeffrey Shaul, President & CEO, Robson Capital
Jeffrey Shaul is an investment industry professional with over 27 years of experience in asset management, investment banking, mergers and acquisitions and private equity. He founded Robson Capital Management Inc. in 2003 with the objective of creating unique investment vehicles for Canadian investors, having conceived ideas for hedge fund strategies not previously available in Canada. He partnered with top US-based managers to implement these unique strategies, launching in 2006 the Robson Van Eck Hard Assets Fund and the Robson Everest Global Fund.
With predecessor firms, Jeffrey was an integral member of teams that introduced breakthrough investment concepts, notably the first private equity fund of funds in Canada (for CPPIB) and a public bond fund using a novel tax advantaged structure. He also had senior investment banking roles on some of the largest M&A transactions in Canada, including the merger of Air Canada and Canadian Airlines.
Jeffrey practiced corporate and securities law with at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt in Toronto, prior to his investment banking career with major Canadian investment dealers including Scotia Capital and TD Securities. He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the CFA Institute and CFA Society Toronto, and is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. Jeffrey has been a member of the Sales Practices Committee of AIMA Canada, and has appeared on BNN as a commentator on the alternative investment fund industry.
Daniel Stanley, Vice President, Ontario, BMO ETFs
Daniel’s 14 years of experience in the capital markets industry includes positions in sales and investment management in Toronto and New York City. During his 7 years at CIBC World Markets he developed expertise in helping advisors use structured products and foreign exchange solutions. He managed global currency exposure at Bloomberg LP, and previously held a role as an investment advisor at RBC Dominion Securities, where he advised clients on security selection and portfolio management. Daniel's consultative approach to working with investors is well suited to increasing the awareness of BMO ETFs among retail and institutional clients. Daniel is a CFA charter holder and holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from McGill University.
Benjamin Tal, Deputy Chief Economist, CIBC World Markets
Benjamin Tal is the Deputy Chief Economist of CIBC World Markets Inc. He is responsible for analyzing economic developments and their implications for North American fixed income, equity, foreign exchange, and commodities markets. He also acts in an advisory capacity to bank officers on issues related to wealth management, household/corporate credit and risk.
Recently described as one of Canada’s leading experts on the real estate market by the International Monetary Fund, Mr. Tal is a regular commentator on financial and economic trends in the Canadian and American print and electronic media.
In addition to providing expert testimony on various economic issues in front of Canadian Parliamentary committees, Mr. Tal has represented Canada in NAFTA discussions with regards to the structure of the North American labour market. He has also led investment seminars on behalf of the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and leading institutional investors in major European cities.
Mr. Tal is a member of the Economic Committee of The Canadian Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the Toronto Association for Business and Economics (TABE).
Mark Yamada, President & CEO, PŮR Investing Inc.
Mark Yamada is President and CEO of PŮR Investing Inc. (PŮR). PŮR combines software development with portfolio management delivering innovative solutions to defined contribution pension plans and disruptive strategies to investment advisors and their clients. PŮR provides independent exchange-traded fund (ETF) analysis, risk-based portfolio construction and web-based tools including a multi-factor ETF screener and volatility drag calculator for use with leveraged ETFs. Mark lectures and writes about risk, volatility and portfolio construction in the U.S. and Canada and is a frequent speaker about the use of ETFs. He and his partners at PŮR are dedicated to providing better investment solutions to individual investors.
