Randy Ambrosie, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Accretive
Prior to founding Accretive in 2009, Randy was the President of AGF Funds, a global investment management firm, where he was responsible for all aspects of AGF's retail and institutional businesses. Among his many responsibilities he led the effort to solidify and grow AGF's 26,000 Advisor relationships in Canada. During his time as President, AGF was chosen as Advisors Choice Fund Company of the Year for 2006 and 2008.
Over the last 20 years, Randy also held senior leadership positions at HSBC Securities and HSBC Brokerage USA, CIBC Wood Gundy, Merrill Lynch and Midland Walwyn.
Howard Atkinson, President, Horizons ETFs
Mr. Atkinson has 25 years of investment management industry experience focused on exchange traded funds. He joined Horizons ETFs Management Inc, as Executive Vice-President in October 2006 and has led the significant growth in assets from $100 million to approximately $3.4 billion as of February 29, 2012. Prior to joining BetaPro, Howard was responsible for the Exchange Traded Products business at Barclays Global Investors Canada Limited and has held positions with a national investment dealer and major mutual fund companies.
Howard serves on the board of directors of both Horizons ETFs Management Inc. and BetaShares Capital Ltd., an Australian firm providing exchange traded funds under the “BetaShares ETFs” brand. Horizons ETFs Management Inc. owns approximately 49% of BetaShares Capital Ltd. In addition, Howard is a past President of the Toronto CFA Society board of directors and is a member of the S&P/TSX Canada Index Advisory Panel. In 2009 he achieved the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Mr. Atkinson is the author of four books including The New Investment Frontier III: A Guide to Exchange Traded Funds for Canadians, (Insomniac Press, 2005) and “Les Fonds Négociés en Bourse: Un outil de placement novateur pour l'investisseur avisé” (Transcontinental, 2003). Howard has been a contributing writer and frequent analyst referenced in many major Canadian newspapers, including The Globe & Mail, National Post, Toronto Star, Vancouver Sun, and Ottawa Citizen. He is also a co-author of Market Efficiency, a chapter in the CFA Institute Investment Series book entitled Investments: Principles of Portfolio and Equity Analysis (Wiley, 2011) and is currently used as Level 1 material within the Candidate Body of Knowledge.
Howard is a regular guest on BNN (Canada’s Business News Network) and has appeared several times on CNBC Europe and Global TV. In February 2010 he was recognized by ACTIF, Quebec's premier financial education co-operative, as the Top Educator for his efforts to foster financial literacy among Canadians.
Mr. Atkinson is also the current chair of the Canadian ETF Association (CETFA), an independent national association that represents and promotes the Canadian ETF industry. CETFA was founded by three leading Canadian ETFs firms in May 2011 and is the first organization of its kind in the world.
Pat Bolland, Senior Counsel, Veritas Communications
Pat is Senior Counsel at Veritas Communications advising on media training, crisis management and public and investor relations. Pat recently left his hosting duties at BNN; the leading source of business television programming in Canada. Pat is a Queen’s University graduate with a BPHE/BA(Mathematics). Pat worked his way up in the investment industry from floor clerk on the Toronto Stock Exchange to Vice President of Equity Trading with a firm in the top tier of the industry in Canada. Pat then moved into broadcasting and became a leading business figure in Canada on TV and radio and included a stint at CNBC in the USA before returning to his roots in Canada.
Michael Cooke, Head of Distribution, PowerShares Canada
In this role, Michael integrates PowerShares exchange traded products into the Canadian retail and institutional markets. He works with both internal and external clients to complement Invesco’s existing business and bring the best of Invesco PowerShares global expertise to Canadian investment professionals and their clients.
Michael joined Invesco in 2008 after a career in derivative product marketing where he was responsible for the origination, structuring and distribution support of a broad range of products linked to a range of asset classes including fixed income, equity, commodities, managed funds and currencies. Prior to that, Michael held progressively senior sales, marketing and management positions at several global asset management firms. During his career, Michael has consulted with numerous institutional and retail clients across multiple product and business lines.
He is a graduate of Queen’s University in Political Studies and makes his home in Toronto with his wife and two children.
Carol Derk, Partner, Securities and Capital Markets, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP
Carol Derk is a partner in the Toronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. Her practice is in the area of securities law, specializing in investment management funds. She works extensively for managers of mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, closed-end investment funds and pooled funds, particularly in the area of new product development. Carol also has an extensive derivatives practice, particularly for investment funds and pension funds. Other practice areas include corporate and securities transactions, such as public and private financings, mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructurings. Carol is the national leader of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP’s Derivatives Group and the Structured Products subgroup of the firm’s Investment Management Group.
Faizan Dhanani, Executive Vice President, Horizons ETFs
Faizan Dhanani is Executive Vice President, Retail Sales at Horizons Exchange Traded Funds. He oversees the retail sales division and distribution of the company's ETFs throughout the advisory channel.
As a member of the senior management team, Faizan is also responsible for directing and implementing the sales strategy to bring new and innovative products to market.
Prior to joining Horizons ETFs, Faizan was Vice President of Sales with JovFunds, Regional Sales Associate with AIM Trimark, and an Investment Executive with ScotiaMcLeod. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
Joel Dickson, Ph.D., Senior investment strategist, Principal, Vanguard
Joel M. Dickson, Ph.D., is a senior investment strategist and a principal in Vanguard Investment Strategy Group, where he analyzes trends and developments in the exchange-traded fund (ETF) market and provides research and commentary on related issues.
Mr. Dickson has testified before Congress on Social Security reform and mutual fund disclosure issues, and he is often quoted in the press regarding the role taxes play in portfolio management and asset allocation decisions. His academic research focused on tax-efficient investing, and he coauthored with John B. Shoven the seminal work on the topic, “Ranking Mutual Funds on an After-Tax Basis.”
Previously, Mr. Dickson was head of the Active Quantitative Equity Group within Vanguard Equity Investment Department. He had oversight responsibility for all research and portfolio management activities associated with Vanguard’s internally managed active equity portfolios. Prior to that, he was responsible for the day-to-day portfolio management of Vanguard’s active quantitative portfolios. He was also a member of Vanguard Portfolio Review Department, where he evaluated potential advisors for the company’s subadvised funds. Before joining Vanguard in 1996, he worked as a staff economist at the Federal Reserve Board.
Mr. Dickson earned an A.B. from Washington University in St. Louis and a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University.
Marco Dominique, Business Development Manager, Montreal Exchange
Marco Dominique is a Business Development Manager at the Montreal Exchange (MX).
Mr. Dominique prime responsibility is to cover the investment advisor community in Canada, giving them the support needed and be their point of contact at MX.
Before joining MX, Marco was Director at a Canadian Schedule I bank within their structured products division. His primary responsibility was to consult the Canadian investment community to design, deliver and support structured investment solutions. Prior, he was an analyst in their risk management and credit Private Wealth division. Marco also worked as an Investment Representative.
Marco earned his BCom from McGill University with concentrations in Finance and Entrepreneurship. He also completed the Derivatives Market Specialist designation and is a Fellow of Canadian Securities Institute.
Tim Edwards, Vice President, Investor Solutions, Barclays
Tim Edwards is a Vice President, Investor Solutions at Barclays. Based in New York, he has global responsibility for product development for exchange traded notes (ETNs) across all asset classes: commodities, foreign exchange, fixed income, inflation and emerging markets.
Mr. Edwards joined Barclays in London in 2007 where he worked in hedge fund derivatives. In March 2009, he moved to the firm’s New York office to join the Investor Solutions team. Prior to joining Barclays, he completed his PhD in pure mathematics at University College London.
John Gabriel, ETF Strategist, Morningstar, Inc.
John Gabriel is an ETF strategist for Morningstar, responsible for Canadian ETF research. Most recently he was an ETF analyst covering financial, healthcare, and consumer goods and services-related funds. He was previously an equity analyst for Morningstar, covering specialty retail companies, including home furnishing retailers, dollar stores, and office supply retailers. Gabriel joined Morningstar in January 2007.
Gabriel holds a bachelor’s degree in finance with highest honors from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Gabriel is a Level II candidate for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Paritosh Gambhir, Senior Manager, Canadian Asset Management Practice, KPMG
Paritosh is a senior audit manager in KPMG’s Financial Services practice with more than 10 years of experience in public accounting. Paritosh has over seven years of experience auditing investment management companies and their managed funds. Paritosh has gained extensive experience with regulatory issues and requirements in the course of his audits of regulated entities. He has successfully managed the audits of large fund complexes (fund managers with over 80 ETFs) and overseen the completion of these audits (financial statement and compliance) in accordance with the requirements stipulated by the Securities Act. He has also been the lead engagement manager for the audit of large wealth management divisions of certain Canadian Banks, which include investment dealers, mutual fund dealers and investment management companies.
Jigna Gibb, Director, Commodity Investor Structuring, Barclays
Jigna Gibb is a Director in Commodity Investor Structuring at Barclays. Based in London, she is responsible for commodity investor product origination. The platform extends from Private Equity, the iPath franchise and local exchange listed products in Americas, Europe and Asia.
Mrs Gibb joined Barclays in 2004 in London to assist in building the Commodity Investor Structuring business particularly focused on Northern European clients. In 2006 she moved to New York as part of the same global business, where she was part of the team responsible for Barclays commodity structuring effort, focusing on delivering all commodity linked products (index strategies, structured products, and exotic strategies) to investors in the Americas.
Prior to join Barclays, Mrs. Gibb worked at Goldman Sachs where she was a Financial Analyst covering European financial institutions.
Mrs. Gibb received her M.A. from University of Oxford in Mathematics.
Barry Gordon, President and Chief Executive Officer, XTF Capital and First Asset
Barry H. Gordon is the President and Chief Executive Officer of First Asset Capital Corporation and its subsidiaries First Asset Investment Management Inc., XTF Capital Corp., Criterion Investments Inc., which have combined assets under management and administration of approximately $2.6 billion. Prior to joining the organization in 1997, Barry practiced securities law at the Toronto law firm of McMillan Binch LLP (now McMillan LLP). Barry holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Barry is active in several charities, and sits on the Foundation Cabinet of Pathways to Education Canada and the board of directors of the Crescent School Foundation.
Christopher Johnson, Director, Knight ETF Trading
Chris Johnson is a Director of Listed Derivatives Sales at Knight Capital. Based in the United States, he is responsible for broadening the firm’s ETF trading relationships worldwide and managing the team’s thought leadership.
Mr. Johnson has been in the financial service industry for more than fourteen years and has been involved in sales, development, and product management of ETFs since 2002. Prior to joining Knight Capital, Mr. Johnson held several internationally focused management roles with Vanguard over the course of thirteen years. Most recently, he was a senior manager in the firm’s ETF Product Management Department, leading a team dedicated to the development of ETFs domiciled and listed in Canada, the U.K., and Hong Kong. Mr. Johnson also spent several years in Vanguard’s Singapore office as head of institutional business for Asia ex-Japan and was responsible for bringing in over $17 billion in new assets under management for the firm.
Mr. Johnson holds a B.A. (honors) degree in Asian Studies from Colgate University and a Graduate Business Certificate in Finance from Saint Joseph’s University. He is a frequent speaker in indexing and ETF related conferences worldwide.
Robert Johnson, Director of Economic Analysis, Morningstar
Robert Johnson is director of economic analysis for Morningstar. In this role, Bob regularly meets with each of Morningstar's sector teams to gather up-to-the-minute economic data from more than 90 Morningstar debt and equity analysts. This information is disseminated to other sector teams and to Morningstar's subscribers via a weekly column and a weekly video. In addition, Bob provides general economic data to individual analysts to help them formulate their opinions on debt and equity securities.
Before assuming his current role in 2008, Johnson was an associate director of stock analysis for the technology team for more than four years. In that role, Johnson emphasized developing strong collaboration among team members and provided a sharper focus on stock-picking. The increased role of consumers in technology spending and a greater emphasis on non-U.S. markets were two key themes developed by the technology team under Johnson's tenure.
Johnson has more than 30 years of investment experience, including both buy-side and sell-side assignments as a research analyst. His work experience includes stints at Stein Roe & Farnham, Rotan Mosle, and ABN AMRO and has involved extensive exposure to technology names.
Johnson holds a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and business administration from Carroll College. Johnson also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Society of Chicago.
Gary Knight, Vice President, Trading, TSX Markets
Gary Knight is Vice President of Trading at TSX Markets. Mr. Knight is responsible for trading, product development, product management, Canadian sales, international sales and business strategy.
Mr. Knight has over 20 years of experience in financial markets, portfolio management and trading.
Before joining TMX Group, Mr. Knight held the position of Institutional Equity Trader, Portfolio and Algorithmic, at Cormark Securities Inc.
Prior to Cormark Securities, Mr. Knight was a Senior Portfolio Manager with the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System. He managed and traded Canadian and U.S. Enhanced Index Portfolios. The notional value of assets under his management exceeded $3.0 billion.

Dr.Lisa Kramer, Expert in Behavioural Finance & Neuroeconomics
Stirring up controversy in financial circles for over a decade with her seminal contributions bridging the gap between rational finance and behavioural finance, Dr. Lisa Kramer is no stranger to the dynamic marketplace of ideas. Her work in the American Economic Review identifying the influence of mood on investor cycles of fear and greed has been profiled in The Wall Street Journal, US News and World Reports, The Washington Post, The Daily Telegraph, Business Week, SmartMoney Magazine, The National Post, The Globe and Mail, CBC Television, and CBC Radio.
An expert on behavioural finance, with interests in neuroeconomics/neurofinance, investments, capital market seasonality, and personal finance, Dr. Kramer captivates audiences with her real-time demonstrations of behavioural biases.
Professor Kramer received her Ph.D. in finance from the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. She holds the Canadian Securities Institute Research Foundation Term Professorship at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management. She recently spent a sabbatical as a Visiting Scholar in the Psychology Department at Stanford University where she conducted groundbreaking research on behavioural finance and neuroeconomics.
Some of her best-known and most provocative research is based on identifying instances where investors' psychological tendencies lead to widespread movements in financial markets.

Ron Landry, Executive Director, ETF Services, Relationship Management, CIBC Mellon
Ronald Landry, CGA, is Executive Director, ETF Services, at CIBC Mellon where he develops and supports the company’s ETF strategy and plan, including determining growth opportunities and ensuring CIBC Mellon’s service model platform meets the needs of current and future ETF clients. Prior to joining CIBC Mellon, Mr. Landry held progressive positions in the financial services sector including senior positions in fund accounting, corporate finance and regulatory compliance at Altamira Investment Services.. Mr. Landry was then recruited to join Felcom Data Services Inc. where he held the position of Executive Vice President and COO prior to being appointed President in 2007. CIBC Mellon acquired Felcom in 2009. Since joining CIBC Mellon, Mr. Landry has led the company’s drive to service the ETF segment and develop CIBC Mellon’s comprehensive service delivery platform. He also participates actively in industry groups including IFIC accounting advisory; CETFA policy; and PR & media committees. Today, CIBC Mellon services more ETF providers than any other custodian in Canada. Founded in 1996, CIBC Mellon provides asset servicing solutions including custody, multicurrency accounting, fund administration, unitholder recordkeeping, pension services and securities lending. As at January 31, 2012, CIBC Mellon held more than $1.1 trillion in assets under administration.
Chris McHaney, Portfolio Manager, BMO Asset Management
Chris is an equity portfolio manager and creates ETF portfolio solutions for internal and external clients and investors. He has taken on numerous roles since joining BMO Financial Group in 2002, including manager of investments for BMO Asset Management where he was responsible for mutual fund manager monitoring and selection. He has also worked in mutual fund sales and distribution. Chris holds a BBA from York University's Schulich School of Business and is a CFA charter holder.
Tyler Mordy, Director of Research, Horizons HAHN Investment Stewards & Company Inc.
Tyler Mordy is the Director of Research and a senior portfolio manager for HAHN Investment Stewards, an early and leading innovator in delivering “global macro” managed ETF portfolios. He is widely quoted and interviewed by the financial media (including CNBC, BNN, Forbes, the Globe and Mail, and the Wall Street Journal) for his global investment strategy views as well as ETF trends.
A member of HAHN’s Investment Committee, he is engaged in top-down strategy, investment policy and securities selection. Tyler is also an advisory board member of IndexUniverse’s ETF Analytics platform, a leading independent authority on ETF analysis.
Amelia Nedovich, Head, Business Development, ETFs & Structured Products, Toronto Stock Exchange
Ms. Nedovich joined Toronto Stock Exchange 15 years ago and has served in various capacities throughout her tenure. Currently, she is responsible for the implementation of the ETF & Structured Product business development strategy for Toronto Stock Exchange, including sponsored education and marketing initiatives promoting the growth of the industry. She also manages relationships with key ETF and structured product industry participants.
Prior to joining TSX, Ms. Nedovich worked as an economist with the Ontario Public Service.
Ms. Nedovich holds an MA in Political Economy from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the Rotman School of Management.
Jonathan Needham, Sales Executive, Vanguard
Jonathan Needham is a sales executive at Vanguard Investment Canada Inc.
Before joining Vanguard in November 2011, Mr. Needham spent more than 13 years in the financial services industry working as an inside wholesaler, vice president of sales, and an investment field consultant. Most recently he was regional vice-president for Dundee Bank of Canada where he served Canadian financial advisors.
In addition to a certificate in human resource management and pension plan administration, Mr. Needham holds the holds the Canadian Securities course designation and continues to upgrade his industry knowledge as a candidate for the Chartered Investment Manager designation.
Tim Pickering, President, Lead Portfolio Manager, CIO, Auspice Capital Advisors
Tim Pickering, Founder and President of Auspice Capital Advisors (Auspice), is the lead portfolio manager and CIO with over 15 years of commodity and financial trading experience. Prior to forming Auspice, Tim was Vice President of Options Trading at Shell Trading Gas and Power in the Houston and Calgary offices. Tim began his career at TD Securities in Toronto in their elite trading development program. He gained experience in a wide expanse of capital market products including foreign exchange, bonds, money markets and derivatives. Ultimately, Tim held the Senior Trader position for the energy derivatives portfolio. Tim has extensive experience trading OTC and exchange traded options, futures, swaps and quantitative trend following systems.
With partner Ken Corner, Tim Pickering has built Auspice Capital Advisors as a next generation CTA, offering strategies in active managed futures (Diversified and Energy), passive ETFs, enhanced indices and custom commodity strategies. Auspice was selected as one of Alberta’s 50 fastest growing companies by Alberta Venture Magazine and KPMG for both 2010 and 2011. Auspice is also the winner of the 2011 Silver medal from Morningstar in the category of Best Opportunistic Hedge Fund in Canada.

Jaime Purvis, Executive Vice President, Horizons ETFs
As Executive Vice-President, National Accounts at Horizons Exchange Traded Funds, Jaime is responsible for developing and maintaining key relationships in the retail investor channel through the Canadian Investment Dealers, both regarding their investment advisor forces and the self-directed distribution channels. Additionally, Jaime also runs special projects, including relationships with managed asset and discretionary management programs operated by the Investment Dealers. As an educational specialist, Jaime is integral in implementing and delivering educational campaigns for Horizons ETFs, such as the acclaimed Horizons ETF University and the monthly technical webinars. Finally, Jaime is the Team Lead for Horizons BetaPro ETFs within Horizons ETFs, where he is responsible for team education and strategy implementation.
A Queen’s University graduate with an Honours degree in Political Science, Jaime has been with Horizons ETFs and predecessor firms since 1995.
Jaime represents Horizons ETFs on the Alternative Investment Management Association, the global organization for Alternative Investments operations and management, and sits on the Canadian Retail Sales Practices Committee.
Yves Rebetez, Managing Director, Editor, ETFinsight
Recognizing the need for an all-encompassing resource dedicated to Canadian Exchange Traded Funds, Yves recently launched www.etfinsight.ca.
From 2004 until early 2011, Yves was Vice President, ETFs/Structured Products with Canada's largest Bank-owned Broker/Dealer, RBC Dominion Securities. Prior to that (1996-2004) Yves served as Portfolio Advisor (Canadian Equities) in DS’s Portfolio Advisory Group. His earlier work experience focused on portfolio management, both in Fixed Income (for Institutional Clients), and in International Equities (for High Net Worth Individuals), with Credit Suisse Canada in Toronto, and earlier with UBS in Switzerland. Yves is a CFA charterholder.
Mark Yamada, President & CEO, PUR Investing
Mark Yamada is President and CEO of PŮR Investing Inc. (PŮR). PŮR combines software development with portfolio management delivering innovative solutions to defined contribution pension plans and disruptive strategies to investment advisors and their clients. PŮR provides independent exchange-traded fund (ETF) analysis, risk-based portfolio construction and web-based tools including a multi-factor ETF screener and volatility drag calculator for use with leveraged ETFs. Marc Zieger, Director of the Index Group, Morningstar
Marc Zieger is Director of the Index Group at Morningstar. He is responsible for the design and delivery of quantitative, rules based investment strategies utilizing Morningstar's respected investment research expertise. Clients include broker/dealers, exchange-traded-product sponsors, pension plans, insurance firms and asset management firms.
Mr. Zieger has been working in the financial services sector for more than 12 years with firms such as Morgan Stanley and BlackRock in the U.S as well as in Switzerland and Germany.
